A Plan for the Lakes

COLA's Lake Management Plan, initiated in 2011 and currently being revised, sets the path to preserve the water quality of Lac Courte Oreilles. The essential elements of the plan are:

• Invasive Species Management

• Lake and Stream Monitoring

• Promote Responsible Shoreland Development

• Eliminate Cranberry Bog Phosphorus Discharges

• Changing Watershed Land Use

In preparation for the Lake Management Plan, COLA also surveyed tax records, public sentiment and other demographic information to look at the overall economic impact of Lac Courte Oreilles on the local economy. The report is summarized here and the full report available as:

COLA has also conducted a number of regulatory actions in its efforts to carry out its Lake Management Plan. These actions relate to:

• Request for impairment status for Musky Bay and subsequently all of LCO

• COLA's Total Maximum Daily Load analysis

• Request for a Site Specific Criterion for a lower phosphorus concentration
